VINLAND DAKAR TEAM was established in 2009, and is based on Peter Mikula’s MM DESIGN RACING TEAM and their previous rich touring car racing experience.

Peter Mikula (MM Design Racing Team) participated in:

1993 - 1997 FORD FIESTA CUP
1996 - 1997 FORD ESCORT CUP
1998           FORD PUMA CUP

In the years 2004 and 2005, the focus started to shift towards rally competition when Peter Mikula and Ivan Novak successfully participated in the 10th Prague Rally Sprint, and also in Rally Luzicke Hory.

In 2009, Peter Mikula debuted in the RALLY DAKAR Argentina – Chille as a member of the Rainbow Racing team, providing the assistance to the Czech motocross racer Jan Fronek, who placed 44 out of 235 participants.

Right there, Peter Mikula fell for Dakar and decided to compete in DAKAR 2010 as a competing driver…

DAKAR 2010

In January 2010, VINLAND DAKAR TEAM (Peter Mikula – Petr Sulak) participated in RALLY DAKAR 2010. Unfortunately, due to the engine failure, they were forced to quit the race on the way from La Rioja to Fimbala, which was a part of Stage 3.

In September 2010, VINLAND DAKAR TEAM (Peter Mikula – Ivan Novak) successfully took part in the SILK WAY RALLY 2010 in Russia. There were 48 cars and 16 trucks participating in this tough, 5000 km long race. VDT placed 17th.

Significantly, this result means that VDT is the very first Czech team ever to finish this race.

DAKAR 2011

In January 2011, VINLAND DAKAR TEAM (Peter Mikula – Ivan Novak) took part in RALLY DAKAR 2011. Their Toyota Land Cruiser 120, number 388, travelled the furthest out of the three participating Czech cars. VDT managed to keep up with the paste more than half of the race (Stage 7, 78th overall); however, in Stage 8 the technical difficulties slowed the down. After missing some of the check points on the way from Antofagasta to Copiapa, they were forced to quit the race in the Stage 8.
